Another reason for late marriages is that many feel that being married
will tie them down and restrict them from doing and accomplishing a lot of
things. For example, many working adults do not even think about getting
married as they are so focused in their work and striving to be the best. Being
married means to have a family. If one has a family, he/she would have to give
up some time to spend with them, which means that they will have lesser time
for work. In the society today, most of us search for statuses and money. We
got to admit that most of us are materialistic.
Men were increasingly judged less for
their personal reputation - including marital status - and more for their
credentials. Perhaps most significant of all was the entry of women into the
workforce, making it easier for them to support themselves without marriage or
after leaving a marriage.
Statistics show that today, members of the opposite sex are
increasingly likely to be "sharing living quarters." Cohabitation
serves as a ‘test’ to help couples understand each other and their living
behaviors more and then after that decide whether if they are going to tie the
knot. However, research have found out that couples who cohabitate before
marriage tend to divorce compared to those who don’t because those who
cohabitate are usually the ones who are not too sure about their relationship
and the benefits of getting married.
Since divorced is legalized, some couples who still do not know each
other well but yet still jump into marriage find that it is nothing since divorce
is possible if things do not work out. Love is a feeling that couples need to
have to stay together, so is giving in. However what young couples that are
getting married do not see are the problems that might arise in the long run if
they do not love each other as much as they used to. They will have to give in
a lot to one another to keep the relationship and marriage going but
unfortunately, couples that are too young do not have the patience to slowly
work things out nor give in to each other, as they are both equally stubborn.
